Want us to tell reporters to interview you about your product? Here are a few fall and winter topics we are already pitching;

by | Aug 7, 2012 | Advice & Tips

Our publicists are calling reporters and producers right now, pitching back-to-school story angles featuring our clients’ products and services. We’re talking with the media about everything from the best products to include in kids’ lunches to trailblazing educational programs.

Now is also a great time to place stories on children’s health because when a child brings home cold germs or the flu virus, the whole family can get sick! We’re not just talking about over-the-counter products. Reporters are also looking for everything from trends in outerwear to immune health.

If your product is a fit for one of these story lines, we need to start working with you now. We’re quickly running out of time to include you in the calls we are making to the media.

We’re also working on long-lead stories that will run in December and January. It’s always disappointing for me when business people call a month before Christmas and want to be in the gift-related stories. Or, they have a weight loss, beauty or health-related product that would be perfect for a New Year/New You angle. The truth is: It is often too late. Those stories are arranged months in advance!

Of course, these aren’t the only story lines we’re pitching! Our conversations with the media are currently ranging from healthy baby products to innovative ways to relieve pain.

No matter what your product is, it’s always better to start early. Typically the first two weeks of a new campaign are invested in preparing a media tool kit, which helps us to “co-produce” stories with reporters and producers. We must also account for the media’s lead times, which can range anywhere from two or three weeks to several months. The sooner we can get started, the more media coverage that’s available.

Call me at 952-697-5269 or send me an email at Heather@MediaRelations.com to get started. I’ll guide you through our processes so that you too can have your product mentioned in the news!

Our publicists have great instincts because they all have media backgrounds. When things get hectic, it’s often Heather who cracks the first joke. “We encourage people to be a little goofy and unique. Some of the best ideas and solutions emerge because we know how to have fun,” she grins. “I may say something like, “Remember this is PR not the ER. Now, lighten up and go book a great story idea with the media!”
