Too often women are intimidated by networking. Throughout my career, I have always sought to build supportive relationships with other women because we can provide one another with tremendous resources. When I first met Marcy Twete, a natural networker, I immediately gravitated towards her. She understood the power of who-you-know and I wanted to help her cultivate her raw talent. We’ve been friends ever since.
Marcy and I were both involved in WomenVenture, a Twin Cities-based nonprofit organization that supports women-owned businesses. I was on the Board of Directors at the time. Marcy was the organized and determined Events and Sponsorships Manager. All of her hard work paid off as we executed one of the largest women’s conferences in the country. Her passion for maximizing women’s potential in their professional and personal lives was unmistakable even then.
I’ve since watched Marcy’s inherent skills blossom into undeniable knowledge of how to get ahead in the corporate world. The burgeoning success of her Career Girl Network and the honest advice in her book You Know Everybody! A Career Girl’s Guide to Building a Network that Works demonstrate the importance of women empowering each other. Connections can only help you reach your goals, even if they are with people in other fields of interest.
I’m happy that my company can spread the word about Marcy Twete’s business, and genuinely excited to watch her career explode. She put all of her energy into the nonprofit sector during our days on WomenVenture, and continues to elevate and motivate women. She’s an intelligent instructor in navigating the corporate jungle. Thanks to women like her, the glass ceiling is cracking.
