In this article

Over the course of the next two and-a-half weeks I am going to share with you the 17 tips my staff has compiled to make you look like a media pro. Hopefully they will help you feel confident and prepared when the spotlight shines on you.

Tip 3: Concentrate on the Interviewer

When on television, your primary focus during the program will most always be the interviewer. Seasoned pros can also have a conversation with the audience and the viewers. If you are new to television, you’ll probably want to look only at the host and avoid looking directly into the camera.

Example Several times during the taping of a talk show, a client directed his attention on the camera when answering the interviewers questions instead of focusing on the host. The only problem was he was often looking into the wrong camera. This simple mistake hurt his credibility and seriously detracted from the interview.
