Your businesses may be getting a gift this spring. As part of its $800 million effort to support those struggling through the coronavirus pandemic, Google has committed to providing $340 million in ad credits to small- and medium-sized businesses with active Google Ad accounts. Facebook is also offering ad credits as well as cash grants to small businesses facing disruptions. Media Relations’ digital advertising team will be helping our clients who qualify for these credits use the extra budget to stay in touch with their customers despite the challenging times.

Google’s ad credits will be rolled out in phases starting in late May, and can be used for any future ad spend across the Google Ads platform. We’re already strategizing with some clients for whom we run Google ad campaigns, helping them take advantage of increased search volumes. Ad credit amounts will vary, based on previous ad spend and currency. To be eligible, businesses must have invested in Google Ads at least 10 out of 12 months in 2019 and in January or February of this year.

Facebook is requiring businesses to submit an application. To be eligible, businesses must be experiencing challenges from the COVID-19 outbreak, been in business more than one year and have between 2 and 50 employees.

We’re thrilled to see the biggest players in digital advertising step up during these challenging times. Right now, many businesses are tempted to hold back on marketing to preserve dollars, but the smartest thing to do is to actually communicate more. Consumers are spending more time than usual online and are craving content and connections. A thoughtful campaign today can give your company the edge now and into the future.

While the pandemic has forced the Media Relations Agency digital team to work remotely, it has not hindered our ability to design, run and analyze digital ad campaigns. If you anticipate getting one or both of these credits, we can help you make smart choices with that extra budget. And if you are not yet advertising on Google or Facebook, let’s talk about getting started so you can grab your audience share.
