Safe Haven Metals – Case Study
Automating buyback pricing and premium management with custom API integration.
Safe Haven Metal is a premier resource for investors in the precious metals market. In an industry where spot prices change constantly, maintaining accurate “Buyback” (Bid) prices is a massive logistical challenge. Safe Haven needed a solution that would allow them to not just display live prices, but actively manage their premiums and margins dynamically as the market shifted.
They engaged Media Relations Agency to build a custom integration for their WooCommerce store. By connecting directly with the Platform Gold Plugin, we developed a system that ingests raw market data from Upstate Coin and Gold, applies Safe Haven’s custom pricing logic, and displays real-time offers to customers instantly.

The Challenge
- Fluctuating Mint Premiums: Precious metal premiums have been shifting rapidly in the current economy. Safe Haven was unable to manually update their bid prices fast enough to keep up with the market.
- Risk of Undervalued Trades: Without an automated way to adjust to these premium shifts, there was a risk of the Buyback price becoming stale, potentially leading to financial losses or uphappy customers.
- Lack of Integration: They had access to data via the Platform Gold plugin, but no way to manipulate that data or display it meaningfully to customers on their product pages.
Our Approach
API Integration & Data Bridging: Rather than building a new data stream from scratch, we developed a custom “bridge” solution that integrates seamlessly with the Platform Gold Plugin. Our solution hooks into the API data already flowing into the site, extracting the raw “Bid” and “Ask” values every few minutes to ensure the baseline numbers are always current.
Dynamic Premium Management: We built a custom calculation engine that gives Safe Haven total control over their pricing strategy.
- Multi-Layer Markups: The system allows for multiple markup layers on every product. Safe Haven can apply a fixed dollar fee (to cover shipping/handling) and a percentage margin simultaneously, ensuring profitability on every trade.
- Manual Overrides: For rare items or special deals, we built a manual override feature that allows the team to bypass the API entirely and set a hard price, giving them ultimate control when automation isn’t enough.
Intelligent “Call for Price” Logic: We engineered a safety protocol for when the data is uncertain. If the spread between the Ask and Bid price drops below a safe threshold , or if the API data is incomplete, the system automatically masks the price and displays “Call for Price”, protecting the business from risk.

Agile Premium Management: The team is no longer chasing the market. When mint premiums shift, they can adjust their markups instantly in the easy-to-use interface, ensuring their buyback offers remain competitive and profitable
Automated Risk Protection: The system now acts as a safety net. If a product’s price becomes volatile or the data is unclear, the “Call for Price” display is triggered automatically, preventing the site from displaying a risky bid.
Empowered Sales Team: When customers do call in, the admin staff now has a powerful dashboard view. They can instantly see the calculated Spread, Ask, and Bid prices side-by-side in the backend, allowing them to quote prices confidently and efficiently without needing a calculator.
