Television interview tips:
Appearing on live television can be a nerve-wracking experience if you’ve never done it before. You may ask yourself, “What if I forget what to say? Am I supposed to look directly at the camera? What should I wear?”
Our team has years of experience on coaching our clients on how to give a great TV interview. We know what reporters and producers are looking for, because we work with them every day. Some of us even used to work in TV. So we know what we are talking about!
3 tips for a good TV interview:
1. Have 3-4 main points you want to get across during your interview. Live tv segments can go by quickly, and you don’t want to run out of time before you can get your whole message out. It’s also easier to remember a few key bullets points than trying to memorize any type of script.
2. It’s natural to be nervous. Before you go on air, talk with the reporters or anchors interviewing you. Get comfortable with them. They want you to do well too.
3. Yes, you are the expert. But you don’t have to speak in technical jargon or give any formal speeches. Just have a natural conversation with the reporter. Talk in terms everyone will understand. There’s nothing more boring than watching a monotone, technical speech that no one understands.
Following these tips will help you have a great TV interview. And above all, remember to have fun with it!
