A bet is a bet part 2: an eyewitness account

As witness to the wager that Robin wrote about in her previous blog post, I am supposed to be an impartial mediator with the terms of the deal. However, in this case I can’t.

I’m rooting for Michelle to win, and I’m doing so for two reasons.

First, I think that every woman should have the opportunity to hear Robin speak. She beat Stage 3 breast cancer and she is leading a wonderful life. Her inspirational story gives hope to women who may be affected by this potentially fatal diagnosis. Robin teaches us to remember that this disease didn’t have to be the end of the world as she knew it, but the opening to a world of endless possibilities.

There is more to the story than a fighter who faced one of the leading causes of death in women and beating it back. Robin wouldn’t let something like chemotherapy get in the way of meeting a deadline and having a smile on her face. Seeing her maintain a positive attitude during the worst of her treatments made us all realize that the everyday things we worry about are pretty insignificant in the big picture.

Robin also has no fear. She tells the story of how two suspicious looking men were casing her house and peering through her windows while she was working from home. They got in a car and sped away. Robin ran to her car and followed them to see who they were. I asked her why she would do such a thing. She just smiled and said, “I battled cancer. They don’t scare me.”

Robin has shown us that her determination gives her the strength to do anything. When she tells us that a difficult situation can be overcome, we sit up and take notice. She has been an inspiration me and everyone else at KBMC. She has made me a better person, and I’m thankful and I feel very blessed to know her.

This leads to the second reason, which is a selfish one. I want to see Robin again and celebrate her with everyone at the Girlfriends Expo and Getaway.
